About
Victor Decamp (*1997) stands out for his insatiable curiosity and his sound research. He began his trombone training at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional (CRR) in Annecy with Jean-Michel Frécaut and Yves Robert, then joined Jacques Mauger's class at the Haute École de Musique (HEMU), where he graduated in 2023 with a master's degree in classical trombone pedagogy. He has won several distinctions in international competitions: Prix d'Honneur at the Leopold Bellan Competition (2020), First Prize at the Innova-Trombone Competition (2020), as well as the Prix Paléo (2021) and the Prix du Domaine Musique et Arts de la scène (2023) awarded by the HES-SO. He is also the recipient of a cultural scholarship from the Leenards Foundation in 2023.
Versatile, he performs in Paris several times with the Ensemble intercontemporain, but also in Switzerland in formations with diverse aesthetics. Indeed, he is principal trombone of the Big Band JazzIn'; he plays with the Manon Mullener 5tet (Altri Suoni- Insomnia), as well as in the group Scent of Lilac. He also joins the Youth Orchestra of the Orchestre National de Fazz (France) for the 2023 season. His eclecticism leads him to play in prestigious venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris, in jazz and contemporary music festivals.
In addition to his classical background, he develops his language as an improviser and composer. His practice of contemporary music constantly leads him to explore extended techniques and use them in a personal and colorful musical context. In 2022, he created the SLIDE COLLECTIVE around the program Identité(s). He explores the personality of each of the musicians in the ensemble from a technical, instrumental and cultural point of view, through original compositions inspired by texts, soundscapes, traditional music and languages. In January 2023, he presented this project on Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) during the show Des masters sur les Ondes.
